The Railway House in Santpoort has received this honorable mention for Building of the Year 2013!
The most recent project from ZW6 is the Railway House in Santpoort. The former Railway House, built in 1867, is almost brutally shot through with a large Cortensteel volume. On two sides an extension is achieved with hard lines and large glass surfaces, which focuses on the surrounding greenery. The small Railway House literally breaks through its ancient walls outside and provides new insight into landscape. The old railway cottage is on the inside almost unchanged.
The remains of numerous alterations have been removed, leaving a pure and characteristic brick cottage. This old section provides security and simultaneously connects all contiguous open spaces of the house. From the middle of the house you will experience long sightlines and a waterfall staircase connecting the various floors. On the east side a volume is added to the entrance and the living room. In the basement you can find the sleeping area with bathroom. By making the extension narrow and elongated an intimate patio is created on the south side, covered with shells.
On the west side the expansion is oriented in the width. This dining room is linked to the kitchen in the old Railway House. In the Railway House exciting reversals between inside and outside arise.The outside of the house is the interior for the dining room and the patio looks mostly an interior space. Old elements and new additions alternate each other surprisingly. Hard materials meet the gentle atmosphere of the old house. In the interior this variety continues.
Design classics combined with found objects, a persian carpet on the hard untreated concrete, a surfboard next to the dining table and a series of remarkable plants throughout the Railway House. You also can find an extraordinary art collection which gives every space a special and unique atmosphere.

Het oude spoorhuisje (aan ene zijde begrensd door de spoorlijn en aan de andere zijde door het nationaal park Zuid Kennemerland) verbindt alle ruimtes van het huis en is van binnen vrijwel ongemoeid gelaten. Verder vormen de buitenmuren van het spoorhuisje de binnenmuren van de moderne gedeelten. Dit vormt een spannende omkering tussen binnen en buiten. Door de grote glasvlakken komt er veel licht het huis binnen en wordt het interieur luchtig en ruimtelijk. De glasvlakken richten zich op het omliggende groen en bevinden zich aan twee zijden van een uitbreiding.
In het hele project speelt contrast een belangrijke rol. De zachte en warme sferen van het oude huis ontmoeten de strakke vormen en harde, duurzame materialen die gebruikt worden in het moderne gedeelte. Qua meubels worden designklassiekers gecombineerd met gevonden voorwerpen en het oude raam verbindt keuken met eetkamer.
On a weekday morning, the ground floor of the Droste silo is empty… At nine o’ clock the big tables with computers slowly descend. A fresh new day begins! At the end of the day the workstations disappear back into the ceiling. The space is ready for another purpose: a lecture, a dinner, a party, a promotion of a new product, an exhibition or an evening Yoga class … Studio Heldergroen is the example to think about the possibilities for other buildings of dual use of (mostly empty) office space.
As a result of the dynamic space on the ground floor there a physical interaction with the organization of Heldergroen and has an attraction to its surrounding area. The space is a pleasant and creative atmosphere to work. It breathes the story that Heldergroen wants to tell its clients: “sustainability and innovation can and may lead up to attractive and profitable projects. And communication starts with showing who you really are.”
ZW6 interior heeft onlangs de bouw en styling van The Beach B&B afgerond.
Het is een knus houten huis in het bos geworden aan de rand een groot weiland, wat een wijds uitzicht biedt. Het matzwarte hout maakt dat het huisje wegvalt in de weide en de frisse witte binnenmuren geven licht en een gevoel van gastvrijheid, wat zorgt voor een mooi contrast. De zwarte buitenkant heeft een absorberende werking, de witte binnenkant geeft energie, maar ook serene rust.
Het comfortabele huisje heeft een basic uitstraling, maar is van alle gemakken voorzien. De boxspring, kleden en kussens geven een heerlijke nachtrust in de stille duinen en de strakke witte keuken is uitgerust met vaatwasser en 2 royale kookpitten. De ruimte is zodanig efficiënt ingericht, dat je niets te kort komt in dit bijzondere huisje. Achter de keuken is de zwarte badkamer met douche en toilet, wat wegvalt achter de witte keuken.
De vele ramen betrekken buiten nóg meer met binnen en de openslaande deuren maken het buitenleven compleet. Het schelpenterras refereert naar de dichtbijzijnde zee en het hout wat voor het interieur is gebruikt, is afkomstig uit de duinen. De gebruikte verf is allemaal op natuurlijke basis en de vloerkleden zijn gemaakt van zeemleer.
The Beach B&B is het bewijs van de mogelijkheid om op een klein oppervlak en met weinig spullen te leven, maar wel een enorme rijkdom te voelen. Want wat heeft een mens immers nog meer nodig?
Deze B&B is te huur via Airbnb: dus ervaar het pure leven in het Nationaal Park nu zelf!
Penthouse Utrecht is located in the hart of Utrecht next to cathedral de Dom.
The large living room gets plenty of light, because of all the glass that surrounds the property. Also the 5 meter long rooflight causes a lot of sunlight in the house.
The interior mainly consists of natural and sustainable materials, like the soft leather couche and the solid wooden tables. Furthermore, beautifully shaped branches from the forest and a cowhide on the floor have been used to strengthen the feeling to be outside. The colours are of natural origin, as can been seen in the various shades of brown, green and simple white.
The terrace is used as an extension of the living space by huge doors. Through the staircase, left in its original state and tiled with matt anthracite slate, provides access to a lower level where the bedroom and bathroom can be found.

Een prachtig hoekpand omringd met zwarte kozijnen, geeft huis aan een klein kantoor in Utrecht.
Simpel is in dit geval veelomvattend voor de inrichting. Een tafel uit 1 stam hout gesneden, muren wit en een stakke donkere houten vloer. De verse bloemen op tafel maken het af. Een werkruimte dat rust uitstraalt, fris en ruimtelijk voelt, maar direct contact geeft met de binnenstad door de omringde ramen.
Ook het bedrijfslogo overscheeuwt niet, doordat er simpelweg gebruik is gemaakt van raamstickers. De enige blikvanger is de grote lamp die midden in het kantoor hangt. Dit grote element in de kleine ruimte, doet ruimtelijk aan en is in contrast met de serene inrichting.

In each space Jeroen enters, arises a whirlwind of ideas. And the most surprising possibilities that a space offers, come in his mind. With this dose of inspiration Jeroen started ZW6, to make from ‘invisible’ areas, living area’s that matters.
ZW6 gives new insight in areas that do not give the right comfort or atmosphere as intended. And he will blow new life into a building that perhaps may have been amortized.
Spaces will live again and they will be formed to your lifestyle. All this, without losing the identity of a property. The characteristic is highlighted and a synergy between the building, equipment, furniture and color theme arises. ZW6 works as much as possible with natural and sustainable materials.
